About Us

Founded in 1901, the Powhatan and Pocahontas Regular Democratic Club is based in Astoria, Queens, NY. Powhatan and Pocahontas is a club that merged in the 1990s to include both the original male-only club (Powhatan) and original female-only club (Pocahontas). We represent the 36th Assembly District, Part A.

Our club is lead by our Board and District Leaders, who are two representatives from our neighborhood elected by Democratic primary voters during biennial state primaries. We are proud that our District Leaders are Breeana Mulligan and Antonio Alfonso.

Read our club's constitution here.

We hold monthly meetings and regular events that are open to everyone.  Local elected officials, including our Public Advocate, Borough President, and Congress Member, often speak at our meetings and events. Members are encouraged to ask them questions about issues that are important to them and the community at large. We regularly organize canvasses and petitioning efforts for Democrats to get on the ballot and to reach voters. In the past, we have canvassed door-to-door in support of for President Barack Obama, Mayor Bill de Blasio, and Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, along with many other local elected officials and judges. Our events include candidate and issue based forums, panel discussions, fundraisers, movie nights, group outings, and many others. We hope to see you at our next meeting or event!
